I have this brown belt friend that races motorcycles. The other day he said that Jiu Jitsu is like a prolonged motorcycle crash. Very rarely do you get seriously hurt all at once, however the tiny aches and pains equate to a full blown accident over time. It’s true, when you grapple your body hurts all the time. Honestly, you just reach a point where it’s your constant state. Then you have to get really proactive about your recovery, and do auxiliary things to manage the wear and tear. The thing is I wouldn’t trade it, grappling is the most fun exercise for me personally and I’d rather be proactive about holding my body together now, then have to be reactive when I’m 50 because I wasn’t moving my body.
